Working principle of pneumatic butterfly valves
The main purpose of a pneumatic butterfly valves is to control the flow of fluid or air within a pipe. It consists of a flat circular disc that rotates around its axis. This disc is connected to an actuator on the outside, which can be operated either manually or through automated processes using compressed air.
When the valve is open, the disc turns 90 degrees so that it is parallel with the pipe's flow direction. By doing this, it allows unrestricted flow inside the pipe and no pressure drop occurs since there are no obstructions in place. When closed however, disk pivots in such way that its edge blocks off any further passage for fluids or gases to pass through; thus controlling the rate at which they can travel down within the pipes.
As far as working principles go, pneumatic butterfly valves mainly rely on linear motion regulated by their actuator which operates according to differential pressures on opposed sides of its diaphragm or piston head - usually provided by compressor pumps connected directly to them via small inputs near their bodies. As exposed previously, once activated one way these valves are capable of blocking off all path for flows while letting them move freely if activated another way; making them pretty versatile when used properly depending on what types of requirements are needed from our systems’ end results regarding fluid control dynamics powered by pneumatics!
Pneumatic butterfly valve accessories
When it comes to pneumatic butterfly valves, there are a variety of accessories that you need in order to ensure optimal performance. These accessories include actuators, limit switches, solenoids, fieldbus controllers and more.
Actuators: Pneumatic actuators provide the necessary force to open and close the valve. This is done primarily through diaphragm or piston actuation. When discussing pneumatic butterfly valves specifically, diaphragm actuation is usually used as it provides a smoother operation than other methods such as cylinder/spring combinations.
Limit Switches: Limit switches detect when the valve has opened or closed properly and indicate this information by sending electrical signals back to control units (such as PLCs). Depending on what type of switch you use (normally referred to as reed or proximity), they can be attached either directly onto the valve body itself or onto an additional bracket which is then bolted onto the frame of the system – ultimately providing feedback regarding accuracy of opening/closing movements.
Pneumatic solenoid valves: are electromechanical devices used to control the flow of compressed air and other fluids. They work by using an electrical current passing through a coil to open or close a valve connected to it. The current passing through the coil generates a magnetic field, which acts upon the solenoid’s plunger causing it to move either up or down and consequently opening or closing the valve accordingly.
Which industries are pneumatic butterfly valves used in?
Pneumatic butterfly valves are used in many different industries, including but not limited to water and wastewater treatment plants, irrigation systems, food production and processing facilities, chemical applications such as oil refineries and petrochemical plants, pharmaceuticals manufacturing sites, power generation stations as well as boilers & process heating/cooling systems.
Pneumatic butterfly valves possess several advantages over other valve types. They have full-flow design with no dead space for easier cleaning; the disc rising is self-cleaning by the passage of fluid through it; they are lighter than other valve types which reduces installation costs; they have a simple design making them easy to use and repair if required; their tight seal prevents backflow of hazardous materials which can be hazardous in certain industrial applications. Furthermore, pneumatic butterfly valves fail safe open so that there is no danger of loss due to failure or jamming in operation.
In addition to these advantages for industrial environments using pneumatic butterfly valves also uses less energy than traditional gate or globe valves because it takes less time for a smaller amount of air pressure (rather than solenoid current) to operate them. This can lead to significant savings on energy bills over time when compared with manually operated gate or globe valves operations in some large industrial sites where this type of valve is commonly used.
